Background
Shoes International are an online footwear retailer based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, selling a wide range of footwear from brands such as Loake, Ecco, Skechers, Rohde, Scholl for both ladies and men. The company's existing site was in its second iteration and performing well, with a steady increase in sales year on year. Nevertheless, after discussion with the client, we felt we could improve both the look and feel of the website, enhance the customer experience, and improve the conversion ratio of visits to orders.
The Project
Following customer feedback and user testing, we comprehensively redesigned and rebuilt the website, to give greater prominence to the brands on sale, and also introduced 'style' landing pages, to improve search engine performance for these terms, and to categorise the products better for customers who did not shop by brand. We also improved the technical performance of the site, again to improve customer experience, improved conversion optimisation, and concentrate on improvements to on-site optimisation to increase search engine traffic.
Results
The site was launched on the 21st of April 2010. Almost immediately, we saw a dramatic increase in search engine impressions and click through.
Relevant traffic has shown a corresponding rise (a 32% increase compared to the previous month), and the conversion rate has improved to 2.79%, which is class leading for the sector. We aim to build on this success by continuing the email marketing programme, and working with affiliates to produce compelling creative to generate further traffic and sales.
